Throughout 2025, we’re introducing changes to the way you earn Status Credits on Virgin Australia, the Status Credit rate you earn when travelling on Airline Partners, and how you qualify to maintain or upgrade your Status membership.

Earning Status Credits on Virgin Australia flights

We are simplifying the way members will earn Status Credits on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and operated flights1. For bookings made from 2 April 2025, the Status Credits earned on these flights will no longer be calculated based on route and fare type. Instead, members will earn Status Credits based on fare type and the all-inclusive farepaid:

  • For Choice, Flex, Group and Business Fares, Members will earn 1 Status Credit per $12 AUD spent on your fare1
  • For Lite Fares, Members will earn 1 Status Credit per $24 AUD spent on your fare1

^Includes base fare, taxes (including GST) fees and carrier charges. Excludes seat selection purchase and other extras.

Earning Status Credits on Partner Airline flights

From 1 October 2025, the number of Status Credits earned when flying with our Airline Partners will reduce. See below for details.

Changes to the way you maintain or upgrade your Status membership

From 1 October 2025, we are making some changes to the way you qualify for Status. The number of Status Credits required to upgrade or maintain your Status membership will stay the same, however, Eligible Sectors will no longer be used. Instead, to upgrade or maintain to Silver, Gold, and Platinum Status, 50% of your Status Credits balance must be earned on Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by you 2.

These new rates will better reflect how much you spend on your fares.

How many Status Credits will I earn?

Your Status Credit earn will depend when you booked your flight and with which airline.

What happens to your Status when these changes take effect 1 October 2025

First things first — if you already have Silver, Gold, or Platinum Status, you keep it. You may even be eligible for an Upgrade.

Eligible Sectors will be removed and you will earn Status with Status Credits.

You’ll be able to see these changes from 1 October 2025 by logging into your account on the web or Velocity App.

Upgrading to a new Status

From 1 October 2025 you’ll be upgraded as soon as you meet the new upgrade requirements for each Status level.

  • The Status Credits in your balance earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by you2 and remaining Status Credits in your balance earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only) or eligible Partners will count towards these goals
  • If on 1 October you have enough Status Credits in your balance in the past 12 months to be eligible for Platinum Plus, you’ll be upgraded from Day 1!3

Maintaining your Status

From 1 October 2025, you’ll need to meet the new maintain requirements for your current Status before your Review Date — you can find this date on your membership card or by logging in to your account.

  • The Status Credits in your balance (for your Benefit Period) earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by you2 and remaining Status Credits earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only) or eligible Partners will count towards these goals.

Upgrading to Forever Gold

We’re thrilled to be able to reward our most loyal members with Gold benefits for life4.

  • As soon as your balance (calculated from 1 February 2013) reaches 12,000 Status Credits (with at least 9,000 of those earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by you) you’ll become a Forever Gold member.
  • If on 1 October 2025 you have enough Status Credits in your balance since 1 February 2013 to be eligible for Forever Gold, you’ll be upgraded from Day 1!
  • If you’re a Forever Gold Member and also have met the eligibility requirements to become a Platinum or Platinum Plus member, you’ll enjoy that Status and all of the benefits that come with it for the relevant Benefit Period.
