Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA)

The number of Velocity Points you earn when flying on Trans-Tasman Virgin Australia marketed flights (i.e. with a VA flight number) that are operated by Air New Zealand, is based on the dollars spent (in AUD) on the ticket, so the more dollars you spend, the more Points you earn1 . ​​​​​​

Terms and Conditions 

1. For bookings made before 2 April 2025, Velocity members can earn 5 Velocity Points per AUD$1 spent on the All-Inclusive Fare purchased for eligible flights operated by Air New Zealand with a VA flight number. For bookings made on or after 2 April 2025, Velocity members can earn 4 Velocity Points per AUD$1 spent on the All-Inclusive Fare purchased for eligible flights operated by Air New Zealand with a VA flight number.

The All-Inclusive Fare refers to the total amount a member pays for flying that includes the base airfare, taxes (including GST), fees and carrier charges, and excludes any spend on ‘Flight Extras’ including Economy X Upgrades, Extra Baggage Allowance, Preferred Seating and Carbon Offset.  

A Velocity membership number must be added to the booking to earn Points, and the name on the booking must match the name on the Velocity membership. Reward Seat bookings and bookings on charter services will not earn Velocity Points. Velocity Points will be earned at the rate of the original fare class booked where members choose to upgrade their fares using Velocity Points or through a complimentary upgrade.

2. In addition to standard Velocity Points earn, Silver, Gold and Platinum Velocity members can earn Tier Bonus Points when flying on Economy Choice, Economy Flex or Business class fares on eligible flights operated by Air New Zealand with a VA flight number. Tier Bonus Points refers to the  additional number of Points (beyond the standard Velocity Points earn) that can be earned by a Silver, Gold or Platinum member when flying on eligible flights, which will be equivalent to a proportion of the standard Velocity Points earned, depending on the applicable Tier Bonus rate (50% for Silver, 75% for Gold and 100% for Platinum).  

3. Members will earn 4 Velocity Points per dollar spent for bookings made on or after 2 April 2025 on eligible flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia or marketed by Virgin Australia and operated by Air New Zealand (with a VA flight number) (Eligible Flight) calculated using the 'Points per dollar spent on the All-Inclusive Fare'. The ‘All Inclusive Fare’ includes base fare, taxes (including GST), fees and carrier charges and excludes seat selection purchase and other extras, such as Economy X, Preferred Seating, Baggage Allowance and Carbon Offset. Members that have earned with an eligible Velocity Points direct earning credit card within 12 months of the date of their Eligible Flight will earn 5 Velocity Points per dollar spent for bookings made for Eligible Flights on or after 2 April 2025 calculated using the 'Points per dollar spent on the All-Inclusive Fare'. 4. Status Credits cannot be earned on all fare types when flying on Air New Zealand. Status Credits can only be earned on Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA).Status Credits accrual is based on single flight segments that consist of individual flight numbers. An itinerary that involves a change in aircraft but retains the same flight number is considered a single flight segment. An itinerary that consists of a change in flight numbers, even if the same aircraft is used for the entire itinerary, is considered two flight segments.

As of 2 April 2025, Velocity members will earn Status Credits on Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA)  based on fare type and the total fare price paid. Velocity members will earn 1 Status Credit per $12 spent on Virgin Australia marketed Choice, Flex and Business Fares inclusive of GST.  Status Credits will be rounded up to the nearest Status Credit. Velocity membership and Status Credit earn are subject to the Member Terms and Conditions, as amended from time to time. 5.  Up until, 30 September 2025, where a member travels on Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA) each Flight Sector will be considered an Eligible Sector.  From 1 October 2025, Eligible Sectors will no longer be required to upgrade or maintain your Status level. To be eligible to upgrade into Silver, Gold, and Platinum Status, members must have the required number of Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during the previous 365 days, with at least 50% of the Status Credits in their balance earned on Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by the member. To be eligible to maintain Silver, Gold, and Platinum Status, members must have the required Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during their Benefit Period, with at least 50% of the Status Credits in their balance earned on Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by the member. Status Credits earned through Partner Airline marketed flights, Family Pooling, Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or with any other partners will not count towards the minimum balance of Status Credits required to be earned on Virgin Australia marketed flights flown by the member. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance. Earn Status Credits when you travel on Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA). The number of Status Credits you earn will depend on the fare type originally purchased and when you booked your flight. 4

Air New Zealand operated flights with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA)

Bookings made before 2 April 2025. 

If booked before 2 April 2025, members will earn Status Credits based on the fare type originally purchased and the number of miles flown as part of a single Trans-Tasman Virgin Australia marketed flight (i.e. with a VA flight number) that is operated by Air New Zealand, at the rates outlined below.

3. Velocity Frequent Flyer Points Earn: If the individual flying with Virgin Australia or an international partner airline is a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, they may also earn Points on Eligible Flights in accordance with the Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions.

4. Points Transfer: Virgin Australia Business Flyer account administrators can transfer Points earned by the Member to a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, provided that (a) there is a minimum of 3,000 Points per transfer; and (b) the Velocity Frequent Flyer member transferee is directly employed or contracted by the Member.

*Virgin Australia Business Flyer membership is available to businesses with an active ABN/ACN and an Australian business address that spend less than $300K per annum on flights with Virgin Australia. The business cannot be a travel agent, travel management company, travel wholesaler, air travel consolidator or anyone re-selling air travel.
