Trans-Tasman: Flights between Australia and New Zealand & Fiji.

Short-Haul International to: Flights between Australia and Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Samoa, Soloman Islands, Vanuatu,  Indonesia & Japan.

  • Long-Haul International flights between Australia and Doha (operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia with a VA flight number) are not eligible for upgrades.
  • Economy Lite fares  are not eligible for upgrades.
  • Group bookings (booked in G Class) can be upgraded at the Choice and Flex level. Prior to requesting an upgrade, the Member wishing to upgrade must have their booking split from the group booking to a separate booking. Please contact the person who booked your group in order to split the booking.
  • Points displayed above are per flight sector.
  • A Flight Sector is a single direct flight between two consecutive locations (e.g. Sydney to Melbourne direct is one Flight Sector)
  • Use your Mileage Calculator to determine the number of miles you will fly.

How to UpgradeMe

You can upgrade your Virgin Australia operated flight any time after you have purchased your Choice or Flex fare.1

  • Online: until four hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time
  • Via Our Membership Contact Centre: until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply) - Call us now!
  • At Domestic Check-in: until 30 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time. See one of our friendly ground crew for assistance.
  • At International Check-in: until 60 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time.
  • In a Virgin Australia domestic Lounge: on the same-day of travel for a Virgin Australia domestic sector (times differ depending on your tier, see important information below to find out more)

How to UpgradeMe Platinum

You can upgrade your Virgin Australia operated flight any time after you have purchased your Freedom fare2

  • Via Our Membership Contact Centre: until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time - Call us now
  • In a Virgin Australia domestic Lounge: on the same-day of travel until 40 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure for flights that are departing from the airport the lounge is located in.

How to UpgradeMe Premium Bid

Offers must be made per flight sector. For example, Sydney to Broome consists of two sectors, Sydney to Perth and Perth to Broome.

Pricing is displayed per passenger for all passengers listed on the booking.

  • Check your eligibility to upgrade
  • Make an offer to upgrade - Determine the amount you're willing to pay to upgrade.
  • Payment details - Enter your payment details - you will only be charged if your offer is successful.
  • Enjoy your flight - You will be emailed about the success of your offer no later than 3 hours prior to departure.

2. All flight upgrades using complimentary fare upgrades are subject to the Member Terms and Conditions.

3. Platinum members who have paid the full fare for an Economy Flex fare are entitled to four complimentary upgrades to Business class on Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic or international short haul Flight Sectors per year. Platinum members see how many upgrades they have available when they log in to My Velocity. Upgrades are subject to availability which is controlled by Virgin Australia. Some flights may have no upgrades available. Additional terms and conditions apply

4. Service fees will be waived for Platinum members who amend or cancel their upgraded itineraries at least 24 hours before departure, based on their membership level at the time of cancellation or amendment.
